Free admission and activities for kids at Home Show

I thought that when I decided to stay home to be with my pre-K guy and my newborn last year, that I would have all of this ‘free time’ to tackle some of the urgent remodeling jobs at home. Weeeeell, not exactly. But perhaps if I drag the hubby along to The HBAGK (Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville) Home Show at the Knoxville Expo Center this weekend, we can kick start some of the projects we’ve been dreaming about.

After looking through the list of vendors in the newspaper I was pleasantly surprised to see some new faces (so many of these Expos have the usual suspects). And the schedule  boasts some interesting speakers. I want to hear Dawn Steimer of Master Custom Homes discuss Secrets to Hiring a Great Remodeling Contractor and Christy Cagle-Brooks from TVA discuss the Energy Right Free Self-Audit, I-HEE (In Home Energy Efficiency) Program (I’ve heard there are instant rebates when you tackle one of the audited projects.

Oh, did I mention the big draw card? There will be fun (and free) kid-friendly projects. Lowe’s will run their Build And Grow Clinics all weekend long at no cost.  Kids will get to build their own special project.

If you’re thinking of going, here’s the lowdown…

When? Noon- 8 p.m. Friday March 2; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday March 3; Noon-6 p.m. Sunday March 4

Where? Knoxville Expo Center, 5441 Clinton Highway

Cost? $10 for adults ($8 with a coupon from the website), free for children under 18
