So, what should you do this weekend?

The weather is gorgeous. Start the weekend early with my picks for family fun!

Friday March 16

Stop by the Friends Used Book Sale at the Knoxville Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m. and it’s Buy 1, Get 1 Free . Not bad when you consider there are thousands of books for $2 or less.

Make a St. Patrick’s Day Hat. Call Smart Toys and Books and see if they have any room left in their popular Mommy, Daddy and Me Art Classes at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or noon.

Toddlers love to shake their diaper-clad bottoms, let them dance at Jitterbugz Mommy & Me Dance Class at Cutie Tooties on Kingston Pike at 11.30 a.m.

Saturday March 17

Celebrate St Paddy’s Day with some green-themed crafts from my Pinterest picks.

Celebrate 75 Years of Imagination with Dr Seuss , from 11 a.m. at Knoxville Center Mall, including crafts, goodies and more. Read my post here for more info.

We missed out on making the Disney hats at the Disney Store last week and spotted them later, they were really cute! This week as part of their month-long celebration win prizes when you play their Trivia Game and join the Dance Party from 11.30 a.m. More details here.

For more Spring Break ideas, check out my post here and of course there are always more ideas in my calendar . What does everyone have planned for the Spring Break?

Psst! I’m slowing building up an album of local photos using Instagram, take a peek here. Someone had drawn a large Pacman game on the path at Fountain City Park and there was a guy entertaining the kids making balloon creations today! Anyone else use Instagram?

Dr Seuss Birthday Party Fun

We stopped by the preschool classroom for a spot of crafting this morning. After the Christmas ornament making late last year, I realized you have to be super organized when it comes to crafting with four year olds. How do those pre-school teachers keep their cool?

Anyway, we have a bit of a coffee habit at home, so I decided to keep the Espresso pod boxes and saw a craft similar to this Lorax face online. To make things easier I flipped the boxes inside out and hot glued them back together. Then cut out felt mustaches, eyebrows and cardboard eyes. The kids applied paint (helpful tip, Minute Maid lemonade lids make great paint pots). Then they glued on the Lorax’s facial features. They couldn’t wait to pose with their creations, so a couple of eyebrows fell off, but nothing that a dab of glue couldn’t fix!

And while it dried we enjoyed a snack of what else, but Swedish Fish and red and blue Jell-o. Now, my kids don’t actually care for Jell-o. Crazy, I know! I wonder if it was just popular with kids from the 70s and 80s? Anyway, I promise this is the last Dr Seuss post for a year. If anyone goes to see the movie, do tell us what it’s like!

A Pinterest-ing we will go: Dr Seuss Birthday Celebrations

Dr Seuss party celebrations have been kicked up a notch with the feature film The Lorax due for release on March 2. So I scoured Pinterest for lots of gorgeous inspiration. I know, any excuse, and I wasn’t disappointed. This should keep me the kids busy until it’s time to start on Easter Crafts.

And the moustache craze continues, why not make a few of these Lorax moustaches and set up a photo booth like the one above for the kids?

This snack is yummy and educational, practice counting with this one fish, two fish treat!

Kids love plain ol’ pipe cleaners, twist them into these cute Dr Seuss characters.

Handprint art never gets old and here it is reinvented as Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Dr Seuss’ Cat in the Hat signature hats are cute, but for something different try these cute party hats in Seuss-like colors.

Truffula Trees out of play-doh and pipe cleaners, craft heaven for little hands.

These Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes are easy to make, just top with blue cotton candy.

Do you celebrate Dr Seuss’ birthday at home or school? Do you have anything special planned or have you created something cool for past celebrations?
